Decision Maker

Make random decisions

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the random decision maker work?

Enter your options (2 or more). The tool uses a cryptographically secure random number generator to select one option with equal probability. Each option has a 1/N chance of being selected, where N is the total number of options.

Can I assign different weights to options?

Yes. Assign higher weights to preferred options. An option with weight 3 is three times more likely to be selected than one with weight 1. Useful when options have different priorities or when you want to bias toward certain choices.

How many options can I add to the decision maker?

The tool supports 2 to 100 options. Enter each option on a separate line or separated by commas. Options can be text of any length. For visual selection, the wheel spinner tool displays options on a spinning wheel.

What are good uses for a random decision maker?

Choosing restaurants, movies, or activities. Assigning tasks to team members. Settling friendly disputes. Picking random topics for practice. Breaking analysis paralysis when options are equally good. Generating random orders for presentations.

Can I save and reuse my option lists?

The tool saves your recent option lists in browser local storage. You can also bookmark the page with options in the URL parameters. For frequently used lists, save them as text files and paste them in when needed.
