Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate my final grade with weighted categories?

Multiply each category score by its weight, then sum. Homework (20%): 95, Midterm (30%): 85, Final (50%): 90. Grade = 0.20×95 + 0.30×85 + 0.50×90 = 19 + 25.5 + 45 = 89.5%. The calculator handles any number of categories.

What grade do I need on the final exam to pass?

Required Score = (Target - Current Weighted Score) ÷ Final Exam Weight. Current average 78% (worth 60%), need 80% overall, final worth 40%: (80 - 78×0.60) ÷ 0.40 = 83% needed on the final.

How do I calculate my grade if assignments have different point values?

Add all earned points, divide by total possible points. Scored 45/50, 38/40, 85/100: (45+38+85) ÷ (50+40+100) = 168 ÷ 190 = 88.4%. The calculator accepts any combination of point values.

What is the standard grading scale?

Common US scale: A = 90-100%, B = 80-89%, C = 70-79%, D = 60-69%, F = below 60%. Some schools use: A = 93+, A- = 90-92, B+ = 87-89, etc. The calculator supports custom grading scales.

How do dropped lowest grades affect my average?

If a professor drops the lowest grade, remove it before calculating. Five quizzes: 80, 85, 90, 70, 95. Drop lowest (70): average = (80+85+90+95) ÷ 4 = 87.5% instead of 84%. The calculator can exclude lowest scores.
