What Is My IP
Find your IP address
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find my public IP address?
The tool instantly displays your public IP address (the one websites see). It shows both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses if available. Your public IP is assigned by your ISP and differs from your local/private IP (192.168.x.x or 10.x.x.x).
What is the difference between public and private IP addresses?
Public IP: assigned by your ISP, visible to the internet, unique globally. Private IP: used within your local network (192.168.x.x, 10.x.x.x, 172.16-31.x.x), not routable on the internet. Your router translates between them using NAT.
Why does my IP address change?
Most ISPs assign dynamic IPs that change periodically (every few hours to days) or when your router restarts. Static IPs (that never change) are available from ISPs for an extra fee, typically used for servers and remote access.
What can someone do with my IP address?
Approximate your city location. Attempt port scans (blocked by firewalls). Send targeted ads. In extreme cases, launch DDoS attacks. They cannot: access your files, see your browsing history, or find your exact address. Use a VPN for additional privacy.
How do I hide my IP address?
Use a VPN (replaces your IP with the VPN server's IP). Use Tor browser (routes through multiple nodes). Use a proxy server. Each method has tradeoffs: VPNs are fastest and most practical. The tool shows whether you are using a VPN or proxy.
