WHOIS Lookup

Look up domain WHOIS

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a WHOIS lookup?

WHOIS queries the domain registration database to find: registrant name and contact info (if not privacy-protected), registrar, registration date, expiration date, nameservers, and domain status. The tool queries the appropriate WHOIS server for any domain.

How do I find out who owns a domain name?

Enter the domain. WHOIS shows the registrant's name, organization, email, and address. However, many domains use privacy protection (WHOIS proxy), which hides personal details. In that case, you see the privacy service's contact information instead.

How do I check when a domain expires?

The WHOIS record shows "Registry Expiry Date" or "Expiration Date." Domains can be renewed before expiry. After expiry, there is a grace period (30-45 days), then a redemption period (30 days), then the domain becomes available for registration.

What do WHOIS domain status codes mean?

clientTransferProhibited: transfer locked (normal). serverHold: domain suspended by registry. redemptionPeriod: expired, owner can still reclaim. pendingDelete: will be released soon. ok/active: normal status. The tool explains each status code found.

Can I look up IP address ownership with WHOIS?

Yes. Enter an IP address instead of a domain. IP WHOIS shows: the organization that owns the IP block, their contact info, the IP range (CIDR), and the Regional Internet Registry (ARIN, RIPE, APNIC). Useful for identifying hosting providers or abuse contacts.
